PPC Limited publishes outcomes of its Annual General Meeting

Moneyweb carried the JSE SENS announcement in which PPC Limited published the results of its Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on Wednesday, 2 September 2026. An AGM is a statutory gathering where shareholders vote on key items such as the appointment of directors and auditors and the approval of remuneration policy.

PPC Limited is South Africa’s largest cement producer, supplying the construction sector. The announcement states that all ordinary and special resolutions in the notice of meeting dated 22 July 2026 were passed by the requisite majority of votes cast.

What the announcement shows

Of the 1,456,251,440 ordinary shares that could vote, 1,152,285,154 were present in person or by proxy, or 79.13%.

Shareholders re-elected directors Nonkululeko Gobodo (90.57% in favour) and Mark Thompson (99.84%), and appointed PricewaterhouseCoopers Inc as external auditor with Nqaba Ndiweni as designated auditor (100%). The remuneration policy received 95.18% support and the remuneration report 95.10%. The general authority to repurchase shares was approved with 99.41% of votes in favour.

The lowest support on any resolution was for Gobodo’s re-election at 90.57%, and 90.00% for her appointment to the audit, risk and compliance committee. Special resolutions on board and committee fees drew between 99.20% and 99.94% support, and those on financial assistance under sections 44 and 45 of the Companies Act drew 98.13% and 95.53%.

Why cement demand is a leading indicator, not a lagging one

It is worth understanding why analysts watch a cement producer’s numbers as closely as they watch the construction companies themselves. Cement cannot be stockpiled by a builder far in advance of a project starting, and it is bought close to the point of actual use rather than at the planning stage, which means PPC’s sales volumes tend to move a few months ahead of the broader construction and infrastructure statistics that only get reported later. A cement producer describing demand as soft is often the earliest visible signal that building activity is slowing, well before that shows up in GDP construction-sector data or in the order books of the contractors themselves.

The AGM announcement itself is a voting record and does not contain financial results, dividend declarations or trading commentary. Investors looking for those details will need to turn to PPC’s results announcements and its integrated annual report, which the company published on 24 July 2026.
