Before you bid
Security services tenders: what to know before you bid
Buyers ask for guarding, access control, armed response, alarm monitoring and CCTV. Security service providers must be registered with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA), so check the registration and grading the tender asks for. There are currently 140 open tenders here, 45 of them closing within seven days.

FAQ
Questions about government tenders
Straight answers on where tenders are published, registering to supply government, and how bids are scored.
How many government tenders are open in security services right now?
At the last daily update there were 140 open tenders in this list, and 45 of them close within seven days. The list is refreshed every day from the National Treasury eTender Publication Portal, and tenders drop off automatically when they close.
Where are government tenders published in South Africa?
Organs of state advertise their tenders, and most national, provincial and municipal tenders and many state-owned entity tenders appear on National Treasury's eTender Publication Portal at etenders.gov.za. Some buyers also advertise on their own websites or in newspapers, so check the buyer's site for the tender you are chasing. This finder lists what is on the portal and links to the official documents.
How do I start supplying the government?
Register on the Central Supplier Database (CSD) at secure.csd.gov.za. You will need your company registration details, tax compliance status and banking details, and the CSD also asks for B-BBEE information. Buyers check your CSD registration before they award, so register before you bid, then read each tender document for its own returnable documents.
What is the difference between an RFQ, RFB, RFP and RFI?
A request for quotation (RFQ) is normally a lower-value, quicker process. A request for bid (RFB) is a formal competitive tender. A request for proposal (RFP) asks you to propose a solution, so quality and approach are scored as well as price. A request for information (RFI) gathers information from the market and is not a contract award.
What are preference points, 80/20 and 90/10?
Under the Preferential Procurement Regulations, most tenders are scored on price plus preference points, usually 80/20 for tenders up to R50 million and 90/10 above that. The tender document states the system and the specific goals that earn points, so read the evaluation section before you price.
Do I need to attend a briefing session?
Some tenders hold a briefing or site meeting, and some make attendance compulsory. Bidders who miss a compulsory briefing can be disqualified, so the finder flags compulsory briefings in red and shows the date, time and venue in the details panel.
Do I need to be registered with the CIDB?
For public-sector construction works, contractors generally need CIDB registration at the grade the tender states. Other categories have their own requirements, for example PSIRA registration for security services, so always check the bidder requirements in the tender document.
Is the tender information on this page official?
The listings come from the National Treasury eTender Publication Portal, but Business News South Africa does not issue, evaluate or award tenders. The official tender document and the buyer always prevail, so confirm the closing date, time and requirements with the buyer before you commit time or money.
Can I get an email when a matching tender is published?
Yes. Use "Get tender alerts" on this page to choose your keywords, provinces and categories, then confirm your email address. We send a short daily or weekly email with the new tenders that match, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe. The alerts are free.
